Boston Conservatory Orchestra: Celebrating Black History Month—Featuring Anita Hill

The Symphony Hall will be filled with the resonant melodies of the Boston Conservatory Orchestra as they honor Black History Month. The program, which pays homage to historically significant African American composers, includes William Grant Still's "Festive Overture" and Margaret Bonds' "The Montgomery Variations." Additionally, the orchestra will present a contemporary piece, Valerie Coleman's "Seven O'Clock Shout," inspired by the dedication of frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A pivotal moment in the performance will feature Anita Hill, a renowned scholar, attorney, and author, reciting the profound words of Martin Luther King Jr. in Joseph Schwantner’s “New Morning for the World.” The culmination of the evening will be marked by the stirring conclusion with Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s “Toussaint L’Ouverture.” Notably, conductor Bruce Hangen has meticulously recreated long-lost parts for this rendition, making it a unique and unforgettable experience.
